2010 CHINESE LANGAUGE PROGRAM
The Southern California Council of Chinese Schools (SCCCS) is the Chinese heritage schools organization in Southern California. There are 106 member schools joined in this organization. SCCCS has served the Southern California Chinese Schools Communities for over 30 years.
SCCCS STARTALK Student Program is part of a federal initiative program to enhance the national capacity for critical need languages. The goal of the SCCCS STARTALK program is to help students continue their Chinese language learning during the summer session.
Students can choose to enroll in the SCCCS STARTALK program in the following school districts: Cerritos ABC, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Glendale, Hacienda La Puente, Pasadena, and Walnut Valley Unified School Districts.
There are three different types of programs offered through this project:

There are three different types of programs offered through this project:
- "Panda Bear's Chinese Adventure" (K - 2nd Grade Dual Language Immersion Program) is designed for English Only and Chinese Heritage students engaged in learning Chinese through a content-based curriculum using thematic unit designs. Students will acquire and increase their Chinese language knowledge through an interdisciplinary content topics covered include family, community,and the social science curriculum typical of this grade level. Students who complete this level will be well prepared to enroll in the next level of the Mandarin DLI program during the regular school year.
- “Let’s Go to the Golden Mountains” (3rd Grade – 5th Grade Foreign Language Program) is designed for elementary school students.The California Social Science Framework that covers Chinese Immigration history will be used as a basic of content material. At the end of this program, students will be encouraged to continue learning Chinese in their respective elementary school district’s FLAP courses.
- “Ancient Treasures” (6th Grade – 12th Grade Foreign Language Program) is designed for Middle School and High School students topics covered include anceint Chinese art, and scientific discoveries and inventions. After completing this Program, students will continue their Chinese studies at local secondary schools.
